A FIRE at a disused property in Knutsford which spread to a mains electricity pole is suspected to have been started deliberately.

Firefighters were called to Kenilworth Avenue last night, August 24, shortly before 10.40pm.

Crews from both Lymm and Knutsford attended, as well as the electricity board due to the affected electricity pole.

Police believe the fire was not an accident.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Trees were on fire at the back of a disused property.

“The fire also affected a mains electricity pole.

“A hose reel jet was used to put out the fire and the electricity board was asked to attend to check over the pole and ensure it was safe.

“Once the fire was out, the surrounding area was dampened down and police were asked to attend as it is suspected the fire was started deliberately.”
